Two more people have been arrested for embezzling money from the storm ‘Fani’ that happened five years ago. The arrested accused are Saroj Kant Mahapatra, former bank manager of Puri district Pipili Dandmukundpur branch Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI) bank and associate Angel Mishra. Both were arrested by the Economic Offenses Branch (EOW) in connection with the embezzlement of Rs 3 crore 70 lakh.
According to the information, IDBI associate Angel Mishra was sealed and extorted 3 crores 70 lakhs from Pipli BDO officer. An officer of the bank, Tanmay Maharana, was arrested by EOW last Thursday in this incident. The EOW has now arrested the main accused, Saroj Kant Mohapatra, along with Angel Mishra.
The three accused embezzled Rs 3 crore 70 lakh from the fake account of the block office. During the investigation, it was found that the three accused first embezzled money by borrowing 35 rupees from the bank in the name of family members and friends. To realize the money, he stole the money from the fake account and deposited it in the bank. EOW SP Phillip Tripathi informed the media that the accused was arrested after the then bank manager complained.
