OLD BHUBANESWAR: The abduction of an 8-year-old child from a local garage intersection on Wednesday came to an end. This morning, Srilingaraja police arrested the abducted woman, rescued the baby boy and handed him over to his family. The accused was identified as Amita Digal, 31, of Phulbani area. He is said to be living near Unit-6 Hospital. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. According to police, a couple from Berhampur, who live in the Kargil slum, came to look for work yesterday with their 7-year-old grandson. As they sat in the carpenter’s square, a contractor asked them to work in an apartment under construction. The couple agreed. Amita, who was waiting for work there, also agreed to go work with the contractor. So first the contractor took Amita and the baby boy on his bike and left it at the garage intersection. The couple was later taken to the garage intersection on a bike from the carpenter’s intersection. But when the elderly couple arrived at the garage, Amita disappeared with the baby. Police arrested the contractor and searched for Amita in various slums after a complaint was lodged with the Srilingaraja police station. But it was not possible to locate Amita.
