Bhubaneswar: Bihar Chief Minister and JDU supremo Nitish Kumar has sought the support of Odisha Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik ahead of the Rajya Sabha vice-presidential election. Today, Nitish called and held talks with Naveen and asked for his support.
JDU candidate Haribhansh Narayan Singh is the NDA’s candidate in the Rajya Sabha vice-presidential election, while the BJP’s support for his victory is crucial. In the last Rajya Sabha elections, the BJP backed NDA candidate Haribhansh. Mr. Haribhansh was the Deputy Speaker of the Rajya Sabha from 2014 to April last year. But in April, when his Rajya Sabha membership expired, he was sent back to the JDU Rajya Sabha. He is thought to have survived an earlier attempt to oust him following Mr Jiang’s intervention. The UPA is likely to field DMK member Tiruchi Shiva.
