New Delhi: Who are the poorest in the country? Who is living in poverty? To find out, the central government has recommended the formation of an expert committee. Union Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh made the announcement today. Earlier, the responsibility was given to Arvind Panagaria, former vice-chairman of the policy commission. But he did not reach any conclusions. The new committee recommended by the government will be considered. Will investigate the data. Mr Singh told the Rajya Sabha that he would decide to set a poverty line in view of all the information. In 2011-12, the Suresh Tendulkar Committee recommended a poverty line. The government wants a definition of poverty that can be implemented. That is why the Task Force was formed in 2015 under the chairmanship of Panagaria. It first focused on how to measure poverty and sought to develop a strategy to alleviate poverty. But no decision has been made on the poverty line. The Task Force said in its report that no decision could be made on the recommendations of the Tendulkar Committee or on setting a poverty line. Prominent experts in the country need to delve deeper into this before any final decision can be made.
