Mahanadi, Devi and Paika rivers have become a source of terror for the people living in the flood plains of Jagatsinghpur district. The water level of all the rivers in the district continues to rise. The situation is expected to worsen further as the water has flooded various areas. Kujung block has been the worst affected so far in the district. A 70-foot ghai in the river near Bada balikani of Kujang block has disturbed the sleep of the block residents.
Last year also there was an accident near Bada balikani. Even though the administration did not admit it, it kept a special watch on it. Since this morning, the flood water is entering the villages of Sana Balikani, Bada Balikani, Sarali, Kolar, Hansura, Kathakot, Gobardhanpur, Khosalpur etc. There, the process of migration of people from slum areas has started. In addition, the flood water has entered the village near Jilanasi.
Similarly, near Dalei Ghai, known as one of the most sensitive areas in the district, the flood waters are flowing above the danger mark. The floodwaters have risen to over 59 feet near the confluence of Biridi Block Kathajodi-Sidua River. The hazard code here is 57 feet.
