Veteran Ollywood actor Uttam Mohanty is no more. He passed away today while undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon after suffering from liver cirrhosis. He was 67 years old. The demise of Uttam has cast a shadow of grief in Ollywood and the whole of Odisha. On the 6th, his health deteriorated and he was admitted to KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar. On the 8th, he was shifted to Delhi by air ambulance for better treatment. He was undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis and pneumonia there. Hundreds of fans from all over the state wished him a speedy recovery. However, Uttam fought with death in the hospital for 20 days and finally passed away. With his demise, an era came to an end in Ollywood. The Chief Minister has announced that his last rites will be performed with national dignity.
He was born on 23 December 1958 in Baripada. Although he did not initially aim to become an actor, he entered the Odia film industry in 1977 with the film ‘Abiman’. Uttam’s entire family is dedicated to the film industry. His wife, actress Aparajita Mohanty, and son, actor Babusan Mohanty, have achieved great success in the acting world. The Uttam-Aparajita duo is considered one of the all-time hit pairs of Ollywood. Many of the films this duo has acted in have become superhits. Now Babusan is a leading star in Ollywood. For the past few years, Uttam had stayed away from the acting world due to health reasons.
