Balipatna: The brown sugar trade is on the rise in different parts of Balipatna. Drug traffickers from the capital and Cuttack have set up local smugglers in the area to curb the trade. Young people, especially college students, are addicted. Dissatisfaction with police inaction has been widely linked to the government’s crackdown on dissent. According to locals, brown sugar is now rooted in the Ganda alleys in the Balipatna police station area. Some young people who are intoxicated are also doing business. Drug addicts are lurking in school homes and abandoned areas. Brown sugar packets sell for between Rs 450 and Rs 500 per pack. Sadly, many local students and young people are now addicted to the drug. As a result, many families are on the verge of collapse. In addition, they are generally terrorizing drug addicts. As a result, many people now feel insecure at market markets. “Women are afraid to step on their feet because of the rising tide.” The STF4 team was able to arrest some drug dealers from the area, but no action was taken by the local police. In the village of Ganda, on the other hand, people are not worried about the misguided youth as the fear of drug addicts has increased.
