The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for more than six months. Earlier, India had abstained during the voting in the United Nations. For the first time in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India participated in the procedural vote on Ukraine on Wednesday and voted against Russia. It is worth noting that the 15-member UN Security Council invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to address the meeting through video-teleconference. In February, the Russian army invaded Ukraine. Since then, India has voted against Russia for the first time on the issue of Ukraine. After the invasion of Ukraine, the West imposed severe financial and other sanctions on Russia. India has not condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine. According to reports, the Security Council held a meeting on Wednesday to review the six-month war on the 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. The meeting held a procedural vote with 13 members voting in favour. While Russia voted against the invitation, China abstained.
