Famous Kannada and Tamil film actress Ranya Rao has been arrested for smuggling gold. She was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from Bengaluru airport. After her arrest, Ranya was found smuggling gold with tape on her body, thighs and waist and hiding it inside her clothes and jacket.
As per reports, she had visited Dubai 30 times last year and each time she brought several kilos of gold back to India. She was paid Rs 1 lakh per kg for the gold she smuggled. This means she earned Rs 12-13 lakh each time. She used to use her own designed jacket and belt to smuggle the gold.
Investigation revealed that Basavaraj, a constable posted at Bengaluru airport, helped Ranya. When the officers tried to investigate, Basavaraj stopped them and said, “Do you know who she is?” She is the daughter of DGP Ramachandra Rao. However, the DRI officers investigated and uncovered the smuggling ring. Suspecting a large smuggling network, the DRI is now investigating possible links with the families of politicians, businessmen and police officers.
