Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of Pakistan’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, has been elected as the chief minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province. Also, Maryam Nawaz has created history because Maryam Nawaz is the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab. Miriam Nawaz has defeated Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Rana Aftab Ahmed by getting 220 votes. The Sunni Ittehad Council members boycotted the vote, so Rana Aftab Ahmed did not get any votes.
According to the numbers, it was certain that Maryam Nawaz would become the Chief Minister of Punjab. Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan has already made it clear that only the Chief Minister post will be voted for and no member of the Assembly will be given a chance to speak. Miriam Nawaz easily won the voting held after that. Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony of Punjab Assembly members was held in which 321 out of 371 members took oath. Nawaz Sharif’s party PML-N also won the Speaker and Deputy Speaker elections of the Punjab Assembly. Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan of PML-N was elected as Speaker and got 24 votes. Malik Zaheer Channer was elected as the Deputy Speaker while getting 220 votes.
