New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for failing to pay GST compensation. “It simply came to our notice then. Speaking at a virtual meeting with the chief ministers of some states today, Sonia said the Finance Secretary had made it clear to the Standing Committee on Finance on November 11 that the central government was not in a position to issue mandatory compensation to the states. Refusing to compensate states is nothing short of treacherous. “It is a betrayal of the state government and the people of India,” she said.
