FROM BENGALURU: Rohit Sharma, who joined the Indian Test team for the tour of Australia, kicked off his fitness training at the local National Cricket Academy (NCAA) on Thursday. Rohit was injured during the 13th edition of the IPL, which ended in the UAE. Which is why he was dropped from the limited-overs series during his tour of Australia. However, the Mumbai Indians captain was included in the Test squad after playing two more matches in addition to the IPL final. Rohit is said to have found a place, especially as captain Virat Kohli is set to return to India for the paternity game in the first Test. So in Kohli’s absence, Rohit’s fitness has become more important for the team. That is why he was later sent to Australia with the team after the IPL4 and sent to the NCA to improve fitness. After Diwali, Rohit was said to be training at the NCA. Accordingly, Rohit has started training since Thursday. Rohit is returning to work under the direct supervision of NCA chief Rahul Dravid and chief selector Sunil Yoshi. Rohit said he was “absolutely fit” after playing a key role in making Mumbai the fifth-time winner to score a staggering half-century in the IPL4 final. However, during the IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) felt that he needed some time to recover from a muscle injury. But the issue’s end has the recaptured Rohit in the spotlight.
