NEW DELHI: The curtain fell on a one-day drama today as the entire Congress party danced around Sonia Gandhi, the party’s internal chief. It has been decided that Sonia Gandhi will take over the chairmanship of the Congress party until the AICC session is convened within the next six months. “A committee will be formed to assist Sonia in the day-to-day activities of the party.” But everyone, especially senior leaders, should only be concerned about the party’s future.
The All India Congress Committee, which will meet within six months, will decide on its future course of action. In response, Sonia asked the CWC members to begin the election process at today’s meeting. Casey Baneugopala also read out a statement he made in this regard. However, many leaders, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, have urged Sonia to remain the Congress president.
