Bhubaneswar: Assistant Magistrate Naresh Mohanty today convicted accused Vijay Bhoi of Balianta Khamangor and sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment in a case of attempted murder of a tenant. In addition, a fine of Rs 2,000 has been imposed. The verdict carries a maximum sentence of two months in prison if the fine is not paid. Vijay has been in custody since December 2017 and is in jail. Ratnakar Nayak was handling the case on behalf of the government while Bishwa Narayan Mohanty and Ashu Mohanty were assisting him. According to sources, Rashmiranjan Parida was living in a rented house in Vijay Bhoi in Khamang. On December 31, 2016, Vijay, elder brother Kalandi and Kalandi’s wife had an altercation. Vijay was furious and chased Kalandi’s wife with a knife to kill her. Rashmiranjan was standing in front of him trying to break the knife to stop the victory. However, Vijay harmed Rashmi. He had stab wounds to his face, hands and abdomen. He was hospitalized in critical condition. After a long stay, he recovered. Based on his allegations, Balianta police arrested Vijay a day after the incident. Victory has been in jail ever since. Her sentence is set to expire next December.
