New Delhi: Low quality toys will not be able to enter the country from next month. Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Bilas Paswan said only quality toys would be allowed. The federal government is working to make it mandatory by establishing quality standards for 381 types of goods, including steel, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and electrical equipment. In particular, efforts will be made to prevent the importation of substandard and unnecessary goods from China. The Bureau of Energy Energy (BIS8), in collaboration with various ministries, is setting quality standards for the products. It has been decided that the quality standards for toy imports will be implemented from September 1 next year. BIS9 officials will be deployed at various ports. They will be allowed to enter the country after collecting samples of the goods and verifying their quality.
Not only toys, but also the quality of steel, chemicals, electronics, heavy machinery and packaging and dairy products coming in packages are being considered. Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General, BIS4, said that the quality standards of the goods are being determined based on the decisions taken by the various ministries. For example, the gold standard will be implemented from June 2021. There are currently 24 types of standards in place in the country. There will be two types of verification systems for the quality of the materials. BIS7 officials can check the quality of the goods in the country where the goods are being manufactured. Otherwise, they can also check the goods coming to the country by ship.
